October 2006 Newsletter

PERFORMANCE CHEVROLET on Madison Avenue is our proud club sponsor.
Business Meetings start at 7 pm on the first Thursday of each month at the old McClellan Officers Club (now the Lions Gate). No food will be served at the meeting, but there is a nice restaurant and bar in the same building.

SPECIAL NOTICE KEEPING INFORMED ON CLUB ACTIVITIES: To keep apprised of our club’s activities, there are several key sources of information that will keep you “in the know”. Our monthly meetings are a great place to find out what activities are going on as well as visit with friends. We also have the monthly newsletter, which provides the President’s and Vice-President’s messages and includes the minutes of the current month’s meetings, and identifies club officers, the board or directors and other club helpers, as well acknowledgments for birthdays, raffle donors, etc. Our web site at http:\\WWW.RIVERCITYCORVETTES.ORG is a great source of information regarding our club and includes a listing of all the events scheduled for the year. It also includes the current and past newsletters, many good photos of our cars and articles and photos of featured cars of the month, links to other clubs & other Corvette resources.

President's Message

Hello fellow members:

Thanks to all who came to the Planning Meeting this month. There are lots of fun events and runs planned for this upcoming year. There are also more weekends available to sponsor a run and show us your favorite Northern/Central California destinations. Contact Barbara Stelter if you want to add a run/event to the calendar.

Our first event is the Shrimp and Pasta Dinner on October 27th served family style on round tables set for eight. It is only $20 pp for a fun evening out. INVITE your family and friends to join you. We need to give a head count by October 20th. Please call Anita Avila or Jack Harris to get your tickets NOW. We have many members that are donating their homemade items for the silent auction. Remember this is a fund raiser for the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Adopt-a-Family Program and therefore tax deductible. Our goal is 200 tickets and at last count we had sold 130 tickets. Come watch and sing along at “Karaoke.” Thank you for your support.

We have a couple of members who can use your continued good wishes and cards. Anne Dunbar is home recuperating from falling and hurting her back. It is hard to keep one of those original members down but I think the body cast is slowing her down. Ken Avila has had his second knee surgery and is doing well. We aren’t sure how Anita is holding up though. Keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Joan Mason

Vice President’s Message

Hi, Everyone!!

Thanks to all of you that signed up for events for the next calendar year! We still have lots of room on the calendar so please contact me by e-mail, b1stelter@sbcglobal.net if you would like to add an event to our calendar.

In less than two weeks we are having our Pasta and Shrimp fundraiser and we need all of you to make craft items or bring baked goods from your favorite recipes for our Silent Auction. All the money we raise will go to the North Highlands needy families in December.

See you at the next event or meeting!

Barbara Stelter
Vice-President

Additional Business ….

Ms. Mason stated that due to high price increases at Lion’s Gate for the coming year, starting in January, our meetings and events will be held again at the Dante Club. The Club Officers toured many various options for meeting places, and brought their suggestions to the Board. The Harley Davidson Motorcycle club is no longer at the Dante Club and we will hold our meeting in the large ballroom. Club members expressed their delight in returning to the Dante Club.

Due to a high guarantee requirement, meals before the meeting will not be provided. There are many eating establishments in the surrounding area to choose from.
Roger Aylstock stated that pictures of the Great Race event are up on the website. Roger also requested that if anyone knew of a graphic designer, he would like to have their name.

Roger Aylstock also stated that Performance Chevrolet has a trophy case with RCCC Corvette of the month pictures posted. He has personally seen the display and encourages everyone to stop by and take a look.

The Feature Car of the Month was George & Carol Glaush.

Everyone was reminded that our Christmas Party is scheduled for Saturday, December 16th, at the Lion’s Gate.

Ed Dunbar thanked everyone for their cards, phone calls, and special thoughts for Anne.

Terrie Hunt thanked everyone for their generosity for her annual charity. She said that 20 of her volunteers will be attending the Pasta Feed.

A motion by John Klunder and seconded by Danny Karppala was made to adjourn the meeting. Meeting adjourned.

Respectfully Submitted,
Barbara Dyer for Carol Glaush, Secretary RCCC

If so, feel free to drop by Motor Sport Image (MSI) at 812 Atlantic Street in Roseville every Sat from 8am-12pm for coffee and doughnuts; everyone is welcomed. Also, if any members are looking for a place to start a run, MSI is open to all of our members.

Thank you to our Phone Tree People… they are:  Patti (phone tree manager) & Don Herberger, Tom & Joan Mason, Lisa McNatt, Larry & Kelley Stark, Rich Whitmire, Carol Glaush, Dottie Lindner, Marilyn Tomasello, Terry Snow, Patty & Tom Doherty, Jim & Mary Bartylla, Gary & Charity Smith, Marty Farnetti, and Ran & Barbara Yates.  These people really help us coordinate our events!!

If you have something news worthy and club/corvette related that you would like to appear in the newsletter, please email it to Jim Bjornsen at jimbjorn@yahoo.com .

We have some nice cars in the club and some of us like to drive very fast, but it’s very important to put SAFETY FIRST!!! If you are not comfortable going fast, especially on a club run, please stay within your speed comfort. Stay toward the back of the pack, or volunteer to run with the slower group, if possible. It’s better to show up at the next stopping point a little late, than to drive at a speed you don’t feel safe!
